Introduction to clock jitter cleaner chip
Clock jitter cleaner chip-also known as jitter attenuators-are high-speed analog/mixed-signal chips specifically designed to optimize clock signal quality. Their primary function is to reduce jitter in input clock signals and output high-quality, stable, low-jitter clock signals, thereby meeting the rigorous timing precision requirements of high-speed electronic systems.
Ideally, a digital system's clock signal is a square wave with perfectly uniform periods, where the timing of each clock edge is strictly fixed. In real-world circuits, however, interference factors such as power supply noise, inherent oscillator inaccuracies, and crosstalk cause slight temporal deviations of clock edges from their ideal positions; this deviation is known as clock jitter.
For low-speed electronic systems, minor clock jitter does not affect normal operation. However, in applications demanding extreme timing precision-such as high-speed serial communication, high-speed data acquisition, 5G/6G communication, high-definition video transmission, and millimeter-wave radar-even femtosecond-level additional jitter can lead to data sampling errors, increased communication bit error rates, and reduced system bandwidth, or even cause total system failure.clock jitter cleaner chips were developed specifically to address this issue.
Specific model of the clock jitter cleaner chip
The LMK04714-Q1 is a high-performance clock conditioner supporting JEDEC JESD204B/C standards, designed specifically for aerospace applications.
PLL2 can be configured with 14 clock outputs to drive 7 JESD204B/C converters or other logic devices, covering both device clocks and SYSREF clocks. SYSREF signals can be supplied via either DC coupling or AC coupling. Each of the 14 outputs can be independently configured as a high-performance output for traditional clock systems, with no restriction to JESD204B/C applications only.
This device can be configured to operate in dual-PLL, single-PLL, or clock distribution modes, regardless of whether SYSREF generation or re-clocking is enabled. PLL2 supports operation with either an internal VCO or an external VCO.
The combination of high performance and multiple versatile features including adjustable power-performance trade-offs, dual VCOs, dynamic digital delay, and holdover functionality enables implementation of a flexible, high-performance clock tree.
