Visible DMDs

Visible DMDs
Product Introduction:
Digital Micromirror Devices (DMDs) operating in the visible-light spectrum (420 nm–700 nm) are core spatial light modulation components optimized for this wavelength range. Their primary imaging unit is composed of an array ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of aluminum-alloy micromirrors, each of which can realize independent high-speed tilting. Each micromirror generally has a side length of only a few micrometers to more than ten micrometers, and corresponds to a single independent pixel in the output image.

Introduction to Visible-Light (420 nm to 700 nm) DMDs

Digital Micromirror Devices (DMDs) operating in the visible-light spectrum (420 nm–700 nm) are core spatial light modulation components optimized for this wavelength range. Their primary imaging unit is composed of an array ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of aluminum-alloy micromirrors, each of which can realize independent high-speed tilting. Each micromirror generally has a side length of only a few micrometers to more than ten micrometers, and corresponds to a single independent pixel in the output image.

DMDs developed for visible-light applications are equipped with specifically tuned optical characteristics: the surface of each micromirror is coated with a high-reflectivity metal layer, which maintains a reflectivity of over 90% across the entire visible spectrum (from 420 nm blue-violet light to 700 nm red light). This design eliminates the problems of sharp reflectivity decline and excessive optical energy loss in the short-wavelength visible region, which are common in infrared-specialized DMDs. In addition, the device substrate and packaging window are made of optical materials with excellent visible-light transmittance, which minimizes the absorption and loss of optical signals during transmission.

These devices adopt binary pulse-width modulation (PWM) to generate grayscale and color output. A single micromirror can switch between positive and negative tilt states within tens of microseconds: when the micromirror is in the "on" (positive tilt) state, incident visible light is accurately reflected into the imaging optical path to generate a bright pixel; when tilted to the "off" (negative tilt) position, incident light is reflected to the light-absorbing area to generate a dark pixel. By adjusting the duty cycle of the micromirror's "on" state within a single image frame period, grayscale output with different brightness levels can be generated. When matched with a time-sequenced RGB light source switching scheme or a color filter array, the device can realize visible-light imaging output with accurate color reproduction and excellent contrast.

Specific DMD models for visible light (420 nm to 700 nm)

The DLP670S Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) is a spatial light modulator (SLM) integrating over 4.3 million micromirrors, capable of modulating the amplitude, direction and phase of incident light. This DMD adopts four 2xLVDS input data buses to support ultra-high-speed display of high-resolution graphics. With the combination of high resolution and high graphics rate, DLP670S satisfies the application requirements of various fields including industry, medical treatment and high-end imaging. When matched with dual DLPC900 digital controllers, it can guarantee stable operation; this dedicated chipset can output flexible and easily programmable graphics at a high rate, meeting the solution requirements of various terminal devices.
