Introduction to Analog and Precision Switches and Multiplexers
Analog and precision switches and multiplexers are core semiconductor devices designed for high-precision analog signal chains. They perform critical functions-such as signal path switching and channel expansion-in fields demanding exceptional signal fidelity, including precision measurement, industrial control, medical instrumentation, and communication signal processing.
The primary function of an analog switch is to toggle the "on/off" state of an analog signal path based on an external control signal. In the "on" state, the switch exhibits low resistance, ensuring the target analog signal passes through the transmission link with minimal loss and distortion. In the "off" state, it presents extremely high insulation resistance, completely blocking the target path and preventing leakage current from interfering with other circuit nodes. Multiplexers are functional devices derived from analog switches; they enable multiple analog input signals to share a single output link, or multiple output links to share a single input path. By selecting specific channels for time-division signal transmission, they allow for channel expansion without increasing the size of downstream processing circuitry, thereby significantly reducing the system's overall volume and cost.
Specific models of analog and precision switches and multiplexers
The TMUX861x is a modern, high-voltage analog switch featuring latch-up immunity. Each device contains four independently controllable 1:1 single-pole, single-throw (SPST) switch channels. These devices operate with dual, single, or asymmetric power supplies, provided the total supply voltage does not exceed 100V. The TMUX861x devices deliver consistent analog performance across the entire supply voltage range. The TMUX861x family supports bidirectional analog and digital signals on the source (Sx) and drain (Dx) pins.
All logic inputs are compatible with 1.8V, 3.3V, and 5V logic levels and can withstand voltages up to 48V, offering system flexibility regarding control signal voltages. Fail-safe logic circuitry allows voltages to be applied to the logic pins before the supply pins are powered, protecting the device from potential damage.
This device family features latch-up immunity, preventing high-current events caused by parasitic structures within the device. Latch-up conditions typically persist until the power rails are turned off and can lead to device failure. This latch-up immunity enables the use of these multiplexers in harsh environments.
