Basic definition and core functions of long-distance RF transmitter

A long-range RF (Radio Frequency) transmitter is a device capable of radiating and transmitting modulated RF signals over long distances via an antenna, and serves as a core hardware component in fields including wireless communication, IoT monitoring, RFID, and remote control. Compared with short-range RF equipment, these devices achieve stable signal transmission across ranges from several kilometers to hundreds or even thousands of kilometers by optimizing transmit power, circuit gain, antenna matching, and anti-interference design, thus meeting the requirements of various long-range wireless connectivity scenarios.

In terms of core operating principles, the transmitter first generates the raw signal through a baseband module, then modulates the baseband signal onto an RF carrier of a specific frequency. After the signal power is amplified by a power amplification circuit, a matched antenna converts the RF energy into electromagnetic waves for outward radiation. At the receiving end, an antenna captures electromagnetic waves from space, and the original information is recovered through subsequent demodulation and signal processing, thereby completing long-range wireless data transmission. To enable long-range transmission, these devices typically adopt high-efficiency power amplification technology to minimize transmission loss, and optimize circuit design for designated operating frequency bands to reduce internal signal distortion. Furthermore, they integrate anti-interference technologies such as frequency hopping and spread spectrum to mitigate signal interference caused by environmental noise and obstacle occlusion, ensuring transmission stability in complex environments.

Typical Application Scenarios of Long-Range RF Transmitters

In terms of application scenarios, long-range RF transmitters have been applied in a wide range of industries. In the Internet of Things (IoT) sector, they are widely deployed for environmental monitoring in remote areas, soil and meteorological data acquisition in smart agriculture, and remote liquid level and water quality monitoring in smart water management. They enable stable transmission of collected data from remote monitoring points to cloud management platforms without the requirement for wired communication infrastructure, substantially reducing field deployment costs. In the field of wireless remote control, they are employed for long-range drone control, remote operation of hydraulic sluice gates, and remote operation of mining engineering machinery, enabling reliable instruction transmission across ranges from several kilometers to tens of kilometers. In the field of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), when paired with dedicated reader-writer equipment, long-range RF transmitters can identify electronic tags at a distance of hundreds of meters, supporting applications including container customs clearance management, highway non-stop toll collection, and asset inventory in large mining areas. In the field of emergency communication, when wired communication networks and cellular base stations are completely interrupted in disaster-stricken areas, portable communication devices equipped with long-range RF transmitters can quickly establish emergency communication links to realize long-distance information transmission between the disaster site and the command center.

Parameter specifications of typical devices of long-distance RF transmitter

The DAC39RF10EF and RFS10EF are a series of dual-channel and single-channel digital-to-analog converters (DACs) with 16-bit resolution. These devices can operate as non-interpolating or interpolating DACs to support direct RF sampling or complex baseband signal generation. For single-channel operation, the maximum input data rate reaches 20.48 GSPS, while for dual-channel operation the maximum input data rate is 10.24 GSPS. Capable of generating signal bandwidths of up to 10 GHz, 2.73 GHz, or 1 GHz (corresponding to 8-bit, 11-bit, and 16-bit input resolution respectively) at carrier frequencies above 8 GHz, these devices support direct sampling across C-band to X-band frequencies.

The high sampling rates, output frequency ranges, 64-bit NCO frequency resolution, and phase-coherent frequency hopping capabilities also enable the DAC39RF10EF and 'RFS10EF to perform arbitrary waveform generation (AWG) and direct digital synthesis (DDS). The serial interface, which complies with JESD204B and JESD204C standards, is equipped with 16 receiver pairs with a data rate of up to 12.8 Gbps. It conforms to JESD204B and JESD204C Subclass 1 standards, enabling deterministic latency and multi-device synchronization via SYSREF.
