Introduction to General-purpose MCU chip
The General-purpose MCU chip-often referred to as a single-chip microcomputer-is currently the most widely adopted core computing chip in the embedded systems sector. From consumer devices including smart bands and Bluetooth headsets to industrial control equipment and automotive electronic systems, the core control functions of the vast majority of intelligent hardware products are implemented by MCUs.
Composition of General-purpose MCU chip
Structurally, an MCU integrates core functional units including the central processing unit (CPU), memory, diversified input/output (I/O) interfaces, timers and analog-to-digital converters onto a single chip, forming a chip-level computing and control system. Unlike general-purpose computer CPUs designed for broad versatility, MCUs are inherently customized for embedded application scenarios. With lower power consumption, a smaller form factor and higher integration density, MCUs satisfy the specific control requirements across diversified application scenarios.
Detailed Introduction to General-purpose MCU chip
The MSPM0Gx51x microcontroller (MCU) belongs to the MSP series of highly integrated, ultra-low-power 32-bit MCUs. This MCU series is based on an enhanced Arm Cortex-M0+ 32-bit core platform, with a maximum operating frequency of 80MHz. These MCUs deliver both cost optimization and design flexibility for applications that require small packages or high pin-count packages (up to 100 pins) and are equipped with 256KB to 512KB of flash memory. The devices integrate dual CAN-FD controllers, cybersecurity mechanisms and high-performance analog peripherals, and maintain excellent low-power performance throughout the full operating temperature range.
This device provides embedded flash program memory with built-in Error Correction Code (ECC) and a maximum capacity of 512KB, as well as SRAM with a maximum capacity of 128KB (the first 64KB of which is protected by ECC and parity check). The flash memory is divided into two main banks, which supports in-field firmware updates and address swapping between the two main banks.
Flexible cybersecurity mechanisms enable support for secure boot, secure in-field firmware updates, intellectual property (IP) protection (execute-only memory), key storage and other functions. Hardware acceleration is provided for multiple AES symmetric cipher modes and TRNG entropy sources, and the cybersecurity architecture is currently pending Arm® PSA Level 1 certification.
A set of high-performance analog modules is integrated, including two synchronously-samplable 12-bit 4Msps ADCs (supporting up to 27 external channels), an on-chip voltage reference (1.4V or 2.5V), one 12-bit 1Msps DAC, and three comparators (with an integrated 8-bit reference DAC, compatible with both low-power and high-speed operation modes).
The TI MSPM0 series of low-power MCUs provides devices with different levels of analog and digital integration, allowing customers to select the MCU that matches their specific engineering requirements. The MSPM0 MCU platform combines the Arm Cortex-M0+ platform with an overall ultra-low-power system architecture, enabling system designers to improve performance while reducing energy consumption.
